Students reading for pleasure and paying to be in a book club

At a high school in Minnesota, students are paying a $15.00 activity fee to be part of a book club. You read that right, paying to discuss books. The art of reading is NOT dead, folks!

Edina High group likes to talk books

According to the article, other Metro schools are following suit. Hopefully, high schools in other states will start book clubs, as well.

Raising readers, one good book at a time.

What a great story! It's nice to see kids who still care about reading. Too often, we only hear about the bad kids in trouble or the ones who can only write in textspeak. It's refreshing to see the other kind. I knew they exited!

Yay! Kids who are reading...and paying to do it, not being paid to do it. That's just awesome. Their parents and school system deserve some praise too!

Yay, kids are reading and paying for the pleasure. I'm a little confused as to why they must pay. But it does say something about the kids that they are willing to part with their parents' money for the privilege of reading.
